Small Heath Coenonympha pamphilus
 
Identification: Small butterfly that lands on the ground with wings closed. Much contrast on the underwing.
Information: Distribution: All of the British Isles. May to October.
Similar species: Large Heath has an arc of eyes near the outer edge of the hindwing. It occurs on northern moorland.
