Common Darter Sympetrum striolatum
 
Identification: Yellow lines on dark legs. Male has a red, straight-sided abdomen with dark sides. Northern sub-species nigrescens has extensive dark marks on the sides and underside of the abdomen.
Information: Distribution: all of the British Isles. Late June to October.
Similar species: Ruddy Darter.
