Common Buzzard Buteo buteo
Identification: Broad wings held in a shallow 'V'. Large soaring birds of prey are likely to be this or Red Kite.
Information: Distribution: breeds throughout Britain.
Similar species: Red Kite. Honey Buzzard is uncommon in summer with a longer tail and thinner wings (ID of this species 'not for beginners'). Rough-legged Buzzard is very uncommon in winter with white base to the tail and dark carpal patches (ID of this species 'not for beginners' because some Common Buzzards can display features of this species).
